Tibetan Singing Bowls,
Sankhas (Conch), Jewellery & Malas
![]() |
The history of the Tibetan Singing Bowls is quite mysterious. Some say that they were in use during the time of Shakyamuni Buddha, over 2500 years ago, particularly in the indigenous communities of Tibet. Others speculate even earlier origins. That said, the theory and practice revolving around the Bowls involves refination, geomantik perception, chakra healing, invocation, prayer, offering and astral projection. They speak of the unified field of quantum physics, the tantrik doctrine of vibration and the harmony of the spheres. The higher quality Bowls seem to have a particularly healing effect on the chakras, massaging in a sense the subtle energy channels of the light body in a way that relaxes both both body and mind, restoring a peaceful balance to the individual in relation to the environment, and heightening awareness. There is a magik about them that is impossible to describe outside of the singularity of the moment in which they are played.

My latest shipment of singing bowls from Tibet are as listed below... The prices vary depending on size, weight, quality and condition. Some of the larger bowls are new, made in Ladakh, on the borders of Tibet, but still made by traditional, hand beaten methods. They are made with 10 metals and have an amazing resonance.

TIBETAN SINGING BOWL 10 metals - 60 - 90 years old
|
|
This example of a classic 10-metal Bowl has slight sloping walls and an over-hanging ridge. Bowls of this design tend to be a bit older than the others, and the metals have more of a bell tone. These original Singing Bowls have a lovely sound, and when polished well, give a more resonant sound. |
This Bowl is 11 1/2" in diameter and tests to a rare 2nd chakra D tone with third eye over-tones in A. A Singing Bowl of this size will cost around £140. |

Above: traditional wooden Phurbas. Tibetan phurbas are wooden or metal daggers used in Tibetan rituals for the slaying of demons and negativity. The phurba is also used to pin down the ego, one of the main obstacles to enlightenment. One of the oldest types of 'medicine tools' from the shamanic traditions in the Himalayas is the phurba (phurbu or phurpa). Known variously as a demon dagger, magical knife, thunder nail, or diamond spike, this three-sided blade is a powerful ritual implement used by shamans, magicians, tantrikas (tantric practitioners), and lamas of different ethnic backgrounds and spiritual orientations. These daggers also were traditionally used to pin down demonic influences as part of a process of taming them. The triple blade represents the cutting through of the three root poisons of ignorance, desire and hatred. Phurbas come from the mountain tribes of Bonpo Shamans in the Himalayan region between Kathmandu Nepal and Tibet. It can be used as Yantra to store personal power and also for ritual protection to destroy demons in Tibetan mythology. They are one of the more occult items that has come from the Bonpo shaman religion of pre-Buddhist Tibet. On top we find the 3 faces of the daggers diety spirit. On the bottom is the totem symbols (a Bonpo Shamanistic magical protector). |
Tingsha Bells or hand cymbals are hand cast by Tibetan artisans using traditional methods passed down from generations. Tibetan Buddhists have used them for centuries to prepare themselves for meditation. When the two pieces strike each other they produce a clear, pure, cleansing sound which can be used to focus the mind before and after meditation. The sound of tingshas is like a summons, bringing man to the here and now. As well as for ritual, tingshas can be used for space clearing to remove negative energies and are great for cleansing crystals. |
Tingsha bells come in 3 sizes , starting at 2 1/4" , 3" and 4", and range in price from £10 to £25 The designs vary - Etched Dragons, The Ashtamangalas, Om Mani Padme Um ,Om Mani Gong |

Tibetan White Sankha Trumpet, Dun, Nepal The Sankha is one of the eight auspicious symbols in Tibetan culture (white conch shell) representing the blessedness of turning to the right and offering to the saints with the melodious humming of the shell. Also referred to as a "dun", the white sankha is the trumpet of victory, played, in part, to ward off evil. It is said that if one Sankha is blown alone it heralds death and destruction, whereas if two are blown together, it is auspicious and heralds birth and creation. Because of this, I would recomend that both conch Sankhas are bought together. The second Sankha has Green Tara engraved on the outside of the shell (picture coming soon), and carvings around the spiral (shown below). The Sankha on the right measures 7" long by 4" high. It is from a Tibetan artisan cooperative in Nepal.
